First and foremost, my thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Mr. Yard Mohammad, an independent contractor working for UN Habitat who was murdered yesterday.
At about 1pm on Tuesday, unknown assailants opened fire on a vehicle being driven by Mr. Yard Mohammad in Shoran area of Balabuluk district of Farah province, resulting in his tragic death.
Two passengers escaped unharmed as the team returned from Shoran village where they had just completed a visit to National Solidarity Programme (NSP) projects being implemented for the local community.
It is particularly upsetting that someone who was working for peace, stability and progress in Afghanistan was targeted in such a brutal attack. There can be no excuse for such violence against those who are playing such a vital role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
