“Arab Women Xxx” takes place in the United Arab Emirates, a country created as an alternative to the United States in the 1920s. It is the only part of the Middle East that is governed by an elected government. This has caused a culture shock for the many Arabs that live there, and the result is a variety of cultural issues. The United States has taken advantage of this fact, and it is clear that is where the conflict in this book comes from.

In “Arab Women Xxx,” Elzinga delves into the cultural conflicts that have been brewing in the country for years. She chronicles the many attempts by the United States and other countries to impose their cultural norms upon the inhabitants of the UAE. In one scene, she even brings home a disturbing incident in which a white woman was threatened and spat upon by a group of Middle Eastern men.

For those who have studied this topic before, the similarities of “Arab Women Xxx” with other similar works is obvious. It includes the same amount of text which is filled with cultural and political overtones, while still managing to tell a story that is much more appealing to a contemporary audience.

In her introduction to the book, Elzinga brings up the idea that many people want the Middle East to be just like the United States. That is, the “real” Muslims wish to impose their laws on everyone else, and the “real” Christians wish to control everyone else as well. She takes this to the task, showing how ridiculous these ideas are.

Elzinga claims that she is not trying to divide the world into Arab or Christian, but rather she wishes to show the differences between a Western culture and a Middle Eastern culture. And she uses this theme to highlight many of the cultural conflicts that are prevalent in the UAE. While the Western cultures may seem like the norm, and the Middle Eastern cultures are seen as backwards and uncivilized. Elzinga demonstrates the many differences that exist between the two cultures through a detailed description of many of the traditions which exist in both the Arab and European worlds.

Throughout “Arab Women Xxx,” Elzinga does a great job of making her readers see past the stereotypes. There is no right or wrong answer to the question of what is the difference between Middle Eastern and Western cultures. Rather, it is left to the reader’s own perceptions of the situation. Although her own views may be different than other readers, she does her best to present them honestly in the book.

“Arab Women Xxx” by Tala Elzinga is an impressive piece of work that will provide a much needed view of the Middle East. As Elzinga continues to make waves in her new career, she makes sure that her work is as thought provoking as possible.

The book will appeal to anyone who has ever visited the Middle East and experienced some of the traditions she highlights. Anyone who appreciates a good read about the Middle East will thoroughly enjoy this book, especially if they have been looking for a good overview of their culture to enjoy after they return home.

One of the great things about reading a book in a language other than English is that you will soon find out about the differences between Arabic and other languages, such as Persian, Urdu, Spanish, and Italian. While most people would say that the Arabic language is the most common, that may be not always the case. Elzinga has given a very thorough introduction that should inform readers of all that they need to know about the language.

If you are looking for a little something to do besides reading books, you should give “Arab Women Xxx” a try. You will be glad you did!
