The Egypt's cabinet offered to
resign on Sunday after huge protests against the country's military
rulers, official MENA news agency said Monday.
However, the cabinet will perform its duties until the military
council accepts its request, MENA reported.
The Egyptian military council had accepted the cabinet's
resignation, but has not made its decision yet, Egypt's Nile
TV channel reported.
In a statement issued on Monday, government spokesman Mohamed
Hegazi said the government expressed sadness for the painful
events.
He urged citizens to keep self-restraint and restore stability
to pave the way for the elections, Xinhua reported.
At least 33 people died and nearly 2,000 were injured in
the clashes between demonstrators and security forces in Cairo
and some other cities over the past three days, according
to the country's health ministry.
The latest violence came a few days ahead of its historic
parliamentary election which is scheduled for Nov. 28 after
the fall of former president Hosni Mubarak in February
