| Statement Attributable to the Spokesman of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan | |||||||||
UNAMA has learned with great sadness of the casualties that have occurred yesterday 1 July in Uruzgan province. We express our deep condolences to the families of the victims and all those that were affected by this tragic incident. We have taken note of the joint investigation under way by the Transitional Administration and US forces. We expect that it will provide full clarification on the circumstances of the incident. We have offered the Afghan authorities any assistance that may be required. Last night the UNAMA office in Kandahar met with the Governor of Kandahar to discuss specific contributions to that effect and has helped to arrange a government convoy to Tirin Kot, capital of Uruzgan with medical supplies provided by the ICRC. Kabul, 2 July 2002
