| Statement of Tom Koenigs, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan on today's army bus attack in Kabul | |||||||||
September 29, 2007 I am deeply saddened by this morning’s bus attack in Kabul and the terrible loss of life. We don’t at this stage know the final numbers for dead and wounded but it is clear this attack is among the worst that Kabul has seen. My thoughts at this moment are with the victims, their families, and their friends. This is a tragic loss for them, as well as for all members of the Afghan National Army, on which much hope lies. An attack of this kind, on a busy city street, clearly aims at terrorizing large numbers of people. Society must stand firm in its condemnation of such acts. Those responsible are evidently incapable of offering anything beyond savagery and murder. They must be made to know they will not prevail. ______________ | |||||||||
