UNAMA - Statemets by SRSG - 23 October 2002

On behalf of the UN family in Afghanistan I would like to congratulate you for the work you have done until now, not only for the eradication of polio but also for rehabilitating the health services of Afghanistan.

As you know the United Nations’ fundamental principle on which we are trying to work with the government and people of Afghanistan is that we are helping the government of Afghanistan and we are at the service of the government of Afghanistan and the leadership of the government of Afghanistan. And in the field of health we consider you as our General and we are your troops. We are working under your leadership and under your guidance and trying to implement your programme.
