UNAMA - Statements by President Hamid Karzai

The United Nations, as the largest world organization, has been playing a positive and constructive role in many important political and vital issues and has done commendable job in eradication of tensions and other dangers challenging the peace and security of the world. The existence of this large organization is a vital need of the human world for prevention of dangerous conflicts, provision of peace and stability in war-torn and vulnerable areas as well as various developmental issues.
The people of Afghanistan are grateful to the United Nations for its assistance in transition from the last two decades of destructive crisis and its hard work for further and better consolidation of security, stability, peace and democracy in Afghanistan.
I congratulate all members of the United Nations, particularly its Secretary-General His Excellency Kofi Anan on the occasion of fifty-ninth anniversary of the UN and wish the organization greater success to serving the people of the world.
At the end, I appreciate the efforts of the Faculty of Law of Kabul University for convening the observation ceremony of the fifty-ninth anniversary of the United Nations.
