Qalai Ikhtiaruddin, (Ikhtiaruddin castle) in the centre of Herat city.
The castle was built in 1415 by the fourth son of Tamerlane, Shah Rukh, who ruled from 1405 to 1447.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is working with the Government of Afghanistan to preserve the cultural heritage of Herat.
