Biography of Bo Asplund, DSRSG (RRR)
Bo Asplund is one of the two Deputy Special Representatives for Afghanistan. He is responsible
for Relief, Recovery and Reconstruction (RRR). In addition, Mr. Asplund is
also the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative,
Resident Co-ordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan.
Bo Asplund was the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Indonesia, a post he has held since 2001.
Mr. Asplund has also served as Deputy Assistant Administrator of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Arab States at the Organization’s Headquarters in New York, UNDP Senior Deputy Resident Representative in the Sudan, and United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Algeria.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Asplund held positions with his Government, including at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, and diplomatic postings to Chile and to the Swedish Mission to the United Nations.
Mr. Asplund holds a master’s degree in international economics from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs; master’s and bachelor’s degrees in economics, political science and statistics from the University of Lund (Sweden); and a Certificat d’Etudes Politiques from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris.
