UNAMA May 2006 Poll:
51% of voters believe UN is effective in Afghanistan

Previous polls

The results of an informal online poll, conducted by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan during the month of May 2006, show that a majority of respondents have a positive impression of the United Nations’ work in Afghanistan. Of the 161 people who participated, 51 percent answered yes to the question “Is the UN playing an effective role in Afghanistan?”. 30 percent believed the opposite is true, and a further 19 percent were uncertain.

The UNAMA online poll permits respondents one vote per computer. It is an informal poll only and is open to participation by any visitor to the UNAMA website www.unama-afg.org. For May 2006, and based on data showing geographic location of servers, we estimate that up to 4 percent of respondents may have been UNAMA staff. The May 2006 UNAMA online poll is our first, so in this instance comparisons with earlier periods are not available.
