UNAMA
July 2006 Poll:
60% of voters believe that forgiving human rights crimes
won't help reconciliation
An informal online poll, conducted by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan
during the month of July 2006, has found that a majority of respondents do
not believe that forgiving human rights crimes will help reconciliation. Of
the 126 people who participated, 25 percent felt it will help to advance reconciliation,
while 60 percent did not believe that to be true. The remaining 15 percent
were unsure.
The UNAMA online poll permits respondents one vote per computer. It is an informal poll only and is open to participation by any visitor to the UNAMA website www.unama-afg.org. For July 2006, and based on data showing geographic location of servers, we estimate that up to 5 percent of respondents may have been UNAMA staff.
A new poll question appears each month on the UNAMA website. For information about and results of the June 2006 online poll click here.
